Issues Fixed in Service Pack 4

  • Clicking 'X' on the toolbar would close the program without an error message when trying to delete the contents of a cell.

  • If you closed the Select Field dialog with the X in its titlebar, SKY Index closed too.

  • If both 'see' and 'see also' cross-references exist for the same entry, it was not flagged as an error when using Error Scan.

  • When a user has Windows setup with a locality that uses a period for separating thousands and a comma for separating the decimal portion of a number, SKY Index's configuration dialogs would fail to handle numbers with a fraction correctly.

  • Cut and paste: Cut and paste did not always work as expected when trying to copy and paste from/to other programs.

  • Quotes in cross-references did not get ignored when they should be.

  • If you  have the following: “/i1IPconfig command/i0” and I want to change it to: “IPconfig utility”. If you edit "command" and change it to "utility", then use F2 to change modes and simultaneously highlight the entire cell quickly, then use Alt+F10 to remove the underlining. The underlining was removed but "utility" was also changed back to "command".

  • If the program window was sized to be very narrow, anything that uses the progress bar would crash the program.

  • The program is now compatible with Windows Vista.

  • When in Edit Mode, the fonts did not always match what was seen in View Mode.

  • Having a duplicate record with a page range i.e. 38-40, 38-40, would report a reference within range error when no error should have been reported.

  • If you type an entry that should cause an Automatic Entry and the subheading contains a trailing ignored word, the entry would not be automatically duplicated and swapped.

  • When importing a CINDEX file that has cross-references with a comma and a space, the space after the comma was removed.

  • Characters in the Extended ASCII character set did not import or export correctly when using Cindex DAT files.

  • The Find pattern: <ants> would erroneously match 'giants'.

  • if you have an entry for Saint Paul's Cathedral, and have hidden the "ain" of "Saint" so that it comes out as St but sorts as Saint, whenever you type another entry starting with S, autocomplete comes out with Saint Paul's Cathedral including the hidden formatting and  when you continue to type e.g. t,a,n,f,o,r,d for Stanford, the rest of the word comes out as hidden when it should not.

  • 1, 2, 3 = 1-3: the combination of 111, 112-115 causes an error and results in: 111-112

  • When demoting an entry, text could be lost by being demoted to a level lower than SKY Index supports.

  • The Demote/Promote command would remove formatting when used to demote from the cursor.

  • After Propagating Edits, some functions that operate on selected records would only operate on the current record, not all selected records.

  • Performing Combine or Swap on selected records after using Ctrl+Enter to modify a heading would either produce no result or a result that seems correct, but is not actually reflected in the index database.

  • If the "\" is pressed, the marquee moves to the next row in the Translation Table. Unlike the data entry grid, it should simply enter the "\".

  • A problem with reading a configuration file would make it impossible to read any additional configuration files.

  • When words beginning with diacritic characters exist in the index, the alphabetic separators can come at the wrong place. The diacritic characters aren't recognized as being sorted with the letters A-Z.

  • When filtering by date, the end date must be one day greater than the desired date to include that end date.

  • After doing the Error Scan for Cross Reference Existence, the progress bar did not disappear.

  • "after" was not in the default list of Ignored Words.

  • If you type something in a cell mistakenly using caps (like "using Full-Text Search"), press F2 to highlight the entire cell, and then try to use Ctrl-L to make the contents lowercase, the contents disappear entirely.

  • Trying to import an empty text file would cause SKY Index to close.

  • In page order sorts, locators with page ranges would sort before those without them.

  • If a user typed a new acronym or translation and did not move the grid marquee to start a new record, the newly added acronym or translation would be lost.

  • When using Save As to save a group, you are presented with a message saying the index was created prior to SP2 and needs to be resorted.

  • The documentation was wrong for some keyboard shortcuts.

  • In a locator with Chapter labels, if you enter a page range like: “8.9-8.25f” where the ‘f’ is in italics, ‘25’ would also have been in italics in the generated index.

  • Improvements in sorting routines have been made including, but not limited to, the following: en dashes and em dashes are now ignored whenever a dash (hyphen) should be ignored; German quotes are now ignored; Sorting changes made by choosing Index->Resort now match the sorting characteristics created when using the sorting options in the Index Options dialog.

  • Certain filenames (including “Power to the People.skx”) would cause the Error Scan to fail.

  • When importing a CINDEX DAT file that included multiple cross-references separated by semicolons, the second and all remaining cross-references might not be of same type as the first cross-reference.

  • When locators contained certain types of formatting, the indexer could receive “Error 6” after prolonged periods of editing or data entry.

Usability Issues Addressed in Service Pack 4

  • The Superscript and Subscript format functions can now optionally be configured to use the same keyboard shortcuts as MS Word. Program > Options > Preferences tab.
  • The character map has been enhanced in four ways:   1. You can single click a character and then click Insert to insert that character.   2. You can double click a character to insert the character. 3. The Character Map dialog is now a stay-on-top window. 4. The font you choose is remembered the next time you open the dialog.
  • SKY Index now ignores empty records in both the preview pane and in the generated index instead of displaying an Empty Main heading notice.

New Features added in Service Pack 4

  • If you have the entry: Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and then make a cross-reference to it without the text in parens [like this: ABC. see Australian Broadcasting Corporation] the error scan will no longer complain that the entry does not exist if you configure SKY Index to ignore text in parenthesis on the Sorting tab of Index Options.

  • When creating a new acronym, the current cell contents are now automatically added to the acronym expansion.

  • The Proofing Report now offers the option to generate the report as an RTF file.

  • There is now a new mouse scroll wheel detection configuration item that should allow any mouse’s scroll wheel to work with SKY Index. This option can be found here: Options>Program Options>Preferences tab.
